Reset and Recharge: Tips for Tough Days
What Do You Do When You’re Just Feeling “Meh?” (Lighthearted post ahead)
Let’s be real—no matter how strong or resilient we are, some days just feel... meh. That rainy-day mood can sneak up on anyone, leaving you feeling stuck, blue, or just off your game.
So, what can you do to shake off these thoughts and feel more like yourself? Here are a few of my favorite go-to remedies that help me reset and recharge.
1. Acknowledge Your Feelings
First things first: it’s okay to feel this way. That off feeling is a normal part of the human experience. Life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, and that’s okay.
That said, if your sadness feels overwhelming or puts you or anyone else at risk, it’s important to reach out to a medical professional for help. Your mental health matters, and seeking support is a sign of strength.
2. Get Lost in the Music
There’s nothing quite like music to shift your mood. Whenever I’m feeling down, I turn to my favorite Taylor Swift album (because let’s be honest, she’s got a song for every life phase). I let the music take over, jam out, and relax my mind.
Find that artist who speaks to your soul and let the music work its magic. Play your favorite song on repeat and lose yourself in it—you might just find your groove again.
3. Escape with Your Favorite Show
Sometimes, a little rest and entertainment is all you need. Put on a show that makes you smile or one that feels like a warm hug. For me, that’s a marathon of Law and Order: SVU or Gilmore Girls. Whatever your go-to is, give yourself permission to relax and reset. You deserve it.
4. Write It Out
Journaling is one of my favorite ways to clear my mind. There’s something so freeing about putting your thoughts down on paper (or in a notes app). It’s like releasing a mental load you didn’t realize you were carrying.
You don’t need a fancy journal to start—just grab a notebook, your phone, or even a scrap of paper. Write about what’s on your mind, or simply jot down a list of things you’re grateful for. If (and hopefully when) this becomes a habit, you might find it’s one of the most grounding parts of your day.
5. Talk to Your People
When the “meh” feeling sticks around, talking to loved ones can make all the difference. Whether it’s a quick call or a deep conversation, sharing your feelings with someone you trust is like journaling—only better. Your favorite people can offer advice, perspective, or just a listening ear. Take comfort in knowing you’re not alone.
Make Your Own “Rainy Day” List
These are just a few of my favorite ways to navigate the off days, but the key is finding what works for you. Create your own list of “rainy day” activities—things that lift your spirits, bring you comfort, or simply help you recharge.
Remember, even the strongest souls need rest and care. These moments of self-compassion are what build resilience and keep your inner strength shining bright. So, next time you’re feeling a bit off, take a deep breath, lean into what feels right, and keep the faith. You’ve got this.
